REV. DR. SUKA CHAPEL-HORST, RN, PhD

Dr. Suka studied Music Education, is a Nationally Certified Surgical Technician, has degrees in Nursing, Business and Human Resources, is an Ordained Minister,  and holds an MA and PhD in Theology and Metaphysics.  She is also a Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistics and an EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Practitioner.  

She has been an RN for 35 years specializing in the fields of Mental Health, Criminal Justice and Drug Dependency in Minnesota, Washington, Colorado and North Carolina.  She is the author of “The NEW Alcoholism Story Everyone Needs to Know” , “Natural Relief from Moods and Depression”, and “Why Do I Feel This Way?”, a self-testing manual.

Dr. Suka was a national speaker and corporate trainer for 15 years, and President of Personal Growth Foundation, an educational organization that provided personal development programs to over 80,000 participants nationally.

She created and directed the highly successful Peers Optimal Health Program conducted in five centers in Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN.  In that program, which is the forerunner of the present ARISE Alcohol Recovery rehab program, over six hundred participants achieved improved health and weight loss as well as emotional, mental and spiritual upliftment.  Pre-existing medical conditions were decreased or eliminated.

Since moving to North Carolina, Suka spent 14 years as a nurse in the criminal justice and drug dependency field. Unhappy with the high relapse rates for alcoholism, she was led to provide this unique and highly successful approach for individuals and families seeking recovery from alcohol dependency.

Memberships

Dr. Suka Chapel-Horst is a member of North Carolina Integrative Medical Society, American Holistic Nurses Association, National Alliance on Mental Illness, and Alliance for Addiction Solutions, an international organization promoting research and education on biochemical recovery from addictions and mood disorders without the use of pharmaceutical interventions.

Volunteer Experience

She has been a ski instructor, a National Ski Patrolman, five-state National Ski Patrol First Aid Instructor certified in Mountain and Avalanche Rescue, First Aid Instructor and Disaster Representative for the American Red Cross and Professional Rescue Instructor of Minnesota.

She has served as a Victim Advocate for the Boulder, CO Police Department and Chaplain for the Boulder County, CO Sheriff’s Department.  Suka was a Hospital Chaplain for Presbyterian Hospital in Denver, CO.  She is also a writer and performing musician.

RONALD R. PARKS, MD

Medical Advisor to ARISE Alcohol Recovery

Dr. Ronald R. Parks received his MD from the University of Maryland, a Masters in Public Health and Health Services Research from UCLA, specialty trained in Internal Medicine at George Washington University, Preventive Medicine at UCLA, and Psychiatry at the University of Maryland.

He was Assistant Professor at the Medical School, University of Miami; Chief of Internal Medicine at  Homestead Air Force Base Hospital. Florida; and Director of the Center for Preventive and Nutritional Health Care, Baltimore, MD.

He has also been Clinical Consultant for Doctor’s Data, Inc., a nationally respected medical research and clinical laboratory; and is Founder of MacroHealth Medicine, Asheville, NC.

Specially trained in Psychiatry, Internal, Family & Preventive Medicine, Dr. Parks also has a background in nutrition, and other natural healing arts. He acts as a bridge between the best of conventional Western medicine and the innovative approaches of Integrative Medicine and Psychiatry.

He is known for his talents in doing helpful evaluations and consultations to improve treatment and recovery from physical or emotional problems, including substance abuse and addictions that have not responded to simple or conventional approaches.  Dr. Parks is available for consultations through MacroHealth Medicine, Asheville, NC.

 

EMMALE JUDYCKI, RN, BSN, CQTPI

Emmale has been an RN for 22 years and is a Certified Quantum Touch Practitioner and Instructor.  Using skilled intuitive abilities, she creates a unique approach to the healing process.  Emmale specializes in: Addiction Recovery, Quantum Detoxification , Neuro-Transformational Purification Technique (NPT), Autism, Soft Tissue Healing, (i.e.. wounds, tumors, infection, etc.), Insomnia, Emotional Disorders, Pain Control,  and Distance Healing.

David has extensive coaching experience with individuals recovering from drug addictions through AA and NA. He is an Avatar Master (Belief Management Training), Reiki Master Teacher, Vibrational Healing Practitioner and practices Quantum Touch.  David is currently a student in the Licensed Unity Teacher program.

EDWARD M. O’KEEFE, PhD

Edward M. O’Keefe, PhD  earned his PhD in Higher Education from State University of Buffalo, NY.  After spending four years in administration at Niagara University he went on to Niagara County Community College where he served as Professor of Humanities for 13 years.  This was followed by 13 years serving as Dean of Academic Affairs, Acting President and Director of Continuing/Community Education.Community Service

Ed is a past member of Niagara Falls, NY Board of Education (elected position); Past President of Niagara County Mental Health Association; Past President of NIOGA Library System; Past President of Unity Church (Buffalo) Board; past Board member of DeVeaux School for Learning Disabled Adolescents, Niagara Falls, NY; Ed, along with his wife Romella, developed the Chaplaincy Program at Mills River Unity Church in NC.  Ed a past and present member of various other boards.

Present
Dr. Ed O’Keefe and his wife retired to Mills River, NC where he currently has a private practice as a Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist.  He has developed and gives courses, workshops and lectures on Time Management, Effective Board Membership, Communications Skills, Stress Management, Psychosynthesis, Holistic Health, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Ho’oponopono and Dowsing.

ROMELLA HART-O’KEEFE, BA

Romella Hart O’Keefe, BA earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Pathology from Rockford College, Rockford, IL with post graduate courses in Education, Art and Dietetic Technology.  She is a Reiki Master Teacher, Third Degree and a certified Aqua Instructor.

Substance Abuse Experience

Presented “The Bio-Chemistry of Addiction and Treatment Implication” for Advanced Training in Alcohol/Substance Abuse Counseling in Rochester, NY, 1983.

Employment Counselor: Specializing in persons with substance abuse problems.  Established first Erie County, NY, system of referral and follow-up services for substance abusers mandated into treatment.

• Developer of the Multi-Abuse Assessment TEAM, MAAT, Erie County, NY, in consort with: Alcoholism Services, City Drug Abuse Program, Medical Center Alcohol and Drug Detoxification Units, ECMC Outpatient Alcoholism Clinic, Stutzman Treatment Center, NYS Substance Abuse Program, Sister’s Hospital Methadone Program, Erie County Catchment Area Mental Health Programs and Early Childhood Intervention/Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Project and the Research Institute on Alcoholism.

Romella Hart-O’Keefe and her husband retired to Mills River, NC where she currently teaches and provides private sessions using Reike, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), Ho’oponopono and Dowsing techniques.  She leads an Aquatic Exercise Program and is a co-founder of the Chaplaincy Program at the Unity Church of Mills River where she also sings in musical productions and is active in Project Linus.

Sallina Freeman, LMT and David Freeman, LMT are North Carolina licensed Massage Therapists and have been in practice since October, 2006.  Both attended the Whole You School of Massage in Rutherfordton, NC.

The Freemans have been residents of Henderson County since 1995 and have 5 daughters.  They have worked in various positions in a number of industries and feel their backgrounds have given them a unique perspective in relating to the issues of their clients.The Freemans strongly believe that therapeutic massage can play a beneficial role in the process of recovery from alcohol dependence and are excited to be of service to those of you who are in this process.

We tailor our work to the specific needs of each individual client, be it for the relief of stress, muscle tension, chronic pain, detoxification; or just to relax!
